Joseph was in the Children's Homes at Fir Vale Workhouse Sheffield Union, adopted by the Guardians so he could be emigrated to Canada.

Joseph's mother had died in 1909. DANCE, Rose Annie (wife of E Dance, age 39). Died at Sheff'd Union; Buried on June 2, 1909 in Consecrated ground; Grave Number 37, Section A1 of Burngreave Cemetery, Sheffield.
