Notes A birth registration was found for Elizabeth Alice K Knapman: Year of Registration: 1895; Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar; District: Alton (1837 Onw); County: Hampshire; Volume: 2c; Page: 176.
In 1906, Elizabeth Knapman, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 239 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
This clipping was located in a personal scrapbook and the newspaper did not have a name on it. It would have probably been from a Dundas Co., Ontario paper (as it refers to Cornwall). It had a handwritten date of "1909":
"Elizabeth Alice Knapman, fourteen years old, from the Barnardo Girl's Home, Peterboro, who had been living at Durham Cook's, Aultsville, for three years, disappeared on May 17th. Chief of Police Smith discovered her at Cornwall and had her placed in charge of Mrs. Kippan, matron of the county jail awaiting instructions from the home. A representative came and conveyed her to Peterboro."
