NotesEdward Fulton born Bonnybridge Stirlingshire Scotland March11,1913 to Elizabeth Fulton. At age one month he was handed over for adoption at Gouroch Promenade to Alex and Mary Dalrymple of Hillhead Road Kirkintilloch. They also took in another boy Hugh MacFarlane born 1915.In January 1923, after a court case, both boys were admitted to Quarriers Orphanage,Scotland.Ed and Hugh were in Cottage 26 Ayr Home from 1923 to 1928 and then both boys were transferred to Cottage 41 W.Barnhill Home.It was from Cottage 41 that Ed left for Canada in 1929 and Hugh left for farm service to Isle of Arran in 1932.Ed arrived at Port of Halifax April 13,1929 on ship Caledonia with other Quarrier boys and travelled to Fairknowe Home Brockville,Ont. Ed worked on farms at Port Hope, Ashton and around Brockville until June 30,1940 when he joined Stormont Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders. He served as stretcher bearer and rifleman in N.W. Europe campaign until March 1945 during battle of Hochwald when he was severely wounded and lost both legs and an eye. He talked about Scotland a lot but said he would never go back.He was quiet about his past and it was only in 1977 that I found out he had been in an orphanage. He had good friends and neighbours in the village of Algonquin near Brockville. He enjoyed working in his garden and time spent with family. I did not know until 1983 about his brother Hugh MacFarlane and after much searching found out sadly that Hugh died on July 11,1944 at battle for Caen, France age 28.Still searching to try and solve puzzles in my Dad's life."
