On 8 Nov 1909, Emily Maryian Gumbleton, 18, daughter of Edward Gumbleton and Emily Graham, married Frederick John Songhurst, 26, son of George Songhurst and Caroline Hooker, in Toronto, York, Ontario

children born to the couple were Frederick Gumbleton Songhurst on 19 Aug 1910, Gladys Irene on Nov 3 1911 and Bernice Mae on September 24 1913

On July 25 1915, her husband Frederick John Songhurst enlisted in the Canadian Army, at the time his wife was said to be living at 635 Weston St, Toronto, he was an local engineer. Frederick gave his birthplace as Barnstaple, Devon, England
