In 1951, Richard A. Hinch, 6 (along with brothers, Stephen F. Hinch, 5; and Alan J. E. Hinch, 13) arrived at Fremantle, Australia, in a group of children from Fairbridge Farm Schools, Inc., Holland Villas Road, London, England.

"Whenever I'm asked where I am from, I say Pinjarra because everybody knows where that is. Not everybody has heard of Fairbridge." he said. "But I'm not afraid to say I'm from Fairbridge. I didn't regret a moment of the 10 years I had there."

He was appointed Chief of Western Australia's longest serving emergency service of volunteer firefighters, responsible for fires outside the metropolitan area.
