Jack Runham,94...Athens - Jack Runham,94, a former cheese maker,died March 5 at Maple View Lodge,Athens. He was born John Horace Runham in Cambridge,England on August 8,1908 to Horace Runham and the former Mary Caldwell.He immigrated to Canada in 1924 and worked forst for Leonard Knapp as a farm helper.Then he went to work for Claude Flood at the cheese factory in Plum Hollow.Finally he ran the cheese factory in Forfar.During his cheese making years,he once won a ribbon for his cheese at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. In later years he worked in plumbing and heating,operating his own business,Jack Runham Plumbing and Heating. He then took a correspondence course in television repair and added that to his business.He retired 27 years ago. He was married to Beatrice McDaniel in May 1934 and they had two sons.He owned a cottage on Charleston Lake which he and his family enjoyed for many years.Mr.Runham loved music.He played mainly banjo but also saxophone and was for many years a member of Ray Healey's band,which played for dances and house parties in the area.His son Jack recalls his Dad playing saxophone during New Year's Eve festivities at Athens Town Hall. He identified with the Anglican Church. He is survived by his sons Jack Runham and wife Lorna of Athens and Pat Runham and fiancee Phyllis of Tremor: seven grandchildren,Janice Morrison and husband Dave of Athens,Jack Runham Jr and wife Lisa of RR 3 Athens,Jeffery Runham and wife Susan of Kingston,andSteven,Bill and Leslie Runham all of Belleville;and six great-grandchildren,Allan,Jenna,Ashley,Alicia,Tyler and Whitney.He was predeceased by his wife Beatrice Runham about 14 years ago and by three brothers,Maurice,Pat and Charlie Runham,all of whom remained in England. Friends called at the Judson Funeral Home,Athens,where on March 7 the funeral was held with Rev.Peggy Hudson officiating.Burial followed at Glen Elbe Cemetery. The pallbearers were Jack Runham Jr.,Tyler and Jeff Runham,Reg Latimer and Allan and Dave Morrison.Memorial donations were directed to the Maple View Lodge Auxiliary.
