NotesIn 1911, Alfred Cooper, 15, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 224 Barnardo boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On December 20, 1915, at Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, Alfred William Cooper, 19, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Chelmsford, England; that his next of kin was his brother, James John Cooper, who resided at Brentwood Road, Romford, Essex, England; that his date birth was Mary 24, 1896; that he was a laborer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 4-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; blue eyes; light hair. He was a member of the Church of England. He had a scar on his left leg.

On August 15, 1917, Alfred William Cooper was killed in action in France. He is buried at Lievin Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France. (Grave Reference: II. D. 20.)
