In 1908, Thomas Arnold, 15, arrived at Quebec, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of Barnardo children: 109 girls to Peterborough, and 219 boys accompanied by Mr. Lloyd.

On August 7, 1915, at Regina, Saskatchewan, Thomas Walter Arnold, 22, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Coalchester, England; that his next of kin was his sister, Mrs. George Palmer, who resided at Ealing, London, England; that his date of birth was February 1, 1893; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 4-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; blue eyes; fair hair. He was a member of the Wesleyan faith.
