(Parents: Thomas Cooper Griffith and Elizabeth Devey, married Conway, Denbighshire, Wales, in 1891.)

In 1901, John Griffiths, 3 years of age, was shown residing at Eversleigh House, Colwyn Bay, Llandrillo yn Rhos, Denbighshire, Wales. Other family members included: Thomas Griffiths, 32, joiner; Elizabeth Griffiths, 32; Beatrice Griffiths, 4; Charlotte Griffiths, 1; Jessie Griffiths, 6; and lodgers: Ernest Gayley, 19; Isaiah Trow 42. (Source: 1901 Census of Wales; Class: RG13; Piece: 5290; Folio: 15; Page: 22.)

In 1913, John C. Griffith, 15, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 28 children accompanied by Mr. Johnson en route to Carlton, New Brunswick, Canada.

On November 23, 1921, at St. James Church, Port Colborne, Welland, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between John Cooper Griffith, 23, mechanic, born in Colwyn Bay, N. W. England to Thomas Cooper Griffith and Elizabeth Devey; and Gladys Muriel Johnson, 27, household employee, born in England to Thomas J Johnson and Kate Austin.

His son David Griffith related (Source: Pier 21 - Canada's Immigration Museum {website}pier21.ca/research/collections/the-story-collection/online-story-collection/british-home-children/):

Unfortunately my father never told us of the circumstances of his coming to Canada. He only indicated that he came to Canada to join the Canadian Army. Thus, it was quite surprising to find out only recently that he had been sent to Canada from Wales and left parents, siblings and other relatives behind. Do not understand how they could do this to one child in the family. I don't know a lot of details about my father's earlier beginnings other than military service and some occupations that he worked at. However, he was a hardworking and frugal man who raised a family on very little money and seemed content with his lot in life as he did not have a choice. He was a kind and sensitive man who was very intelligent and wise beyond his years.

My only regret is that I did not tell him how proud I was of all that he had accomplished. He died on January 12, 1993 in Aylmer, Quebec. I think about him every day.
