In 1911, Joseph Hathaway, 21, labourer, is shown as a lodger in the residence of Lemuel Brewer in Millville, York, New Brunswick, Canada. His date of birth is shown as November, 1889.

He declared that he was born in Millville, New Brunswick; that his next of kin was Allan Sharp, who resided at Millville, New Brunswick; that his date of birth was November 20, 1892; that he was not married; and that he was a fireman. He was described as 5 foot 3 inches in height; fair complexion; blue eyes; and light brown hair. He had a distinguishing mark of a vaccination scar on his left arm.
