Their father, William James Hempson (or Smith), had been in Fisherton House Asylum since September 29, 1896, and was discharged to the Workhouse on September 4, 1900.
Their mother, Rose Ann Hempson died in the East Poor House, Dundee Combination, on September 28, 1900.
William was discharged to Dr. Barnardo's Home on August 1, 1900. He was return from Barnardo's Home to Norwood Schools on November 2, 1900.
William was then again discharged to Dr. Barnardo's Home on June 12, 1901, and returned to Norwood Schools on July 9, 1901.
His father, William James, was "strongly objecting to the boy being emigrated."
William was then discharged to Barnardo's Home on May 28, 1902.
In 1902, William J. Hampson, 12, arrived at Boston, Massachusetts, USA, in a group of 395 Barnardo children en route to Toronto and Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
In Barnardo's Ups & Downs, (Double Number), VOL. VIII SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER, 1902 No. 4, it was reported that William James Hempson had been placed with Mrs. Ada Firth, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
William James Hempson, died at the age of 77, on May 24, 1965, at Langford, British Columbia, Canada. (Reg. No. 1965-09-006855)
