NotesMy grand uncle Walter came over with my grandfather in 1894 at the age of 8. He was taken at the age of 6 to Barnardos with my grandfather George because my great grandfather was unable to care for all of the 9 children. He was taken to Liverpool and place on a ship for Canada to arrive in Quebec. For the first 3 years after arrival in Canada they kept the boys together and according to my grandfathers notes in his record they were very happy. Then they were separated and am unable to find out where Walter went after that but indications in the notes of my grandfather's record say that he wrote my grandfather and pleaded with him to notify Barnardos that he was in a "mean place". Grandfather wrote them and a Social Worker went and checked and he got pulled from that person and placed somewhere else. He was, also, abused there according to my grandfathers notes. He ran away. He shows up next on the 1901 census in Ontario not as Walter but as Thomas and as a servant and he's 15 years old. From there I have no clue where he went or what happened but I do know my grandfather visited him once in the St. Catherine's area of Ontario. He did get married but that's all I know. He married an Agnes Day according to my dad's notes and they both died in their early 50's. Am unable to get the record from Barnardos because they say I'm not a direct descendant even though there is no one and both my father and I have looked. I would LOVE to find someone!!

Addendum to prior information: I since have found a grandchild of Uncle Walter. He is buried in St. Catherines On. with no headstone as they couldn't afford to place one. He died young. He was riding a bicycle and fell off and was dead on the scene. His last placement before he left Barnardos was on a neighboring farm to his brother (my grandfather). It was the brother of my grandfathers keeper. Uncle Walter spent his remaining days in the St. Catherines On. area. Thank you to Gail Collins for helping me find is burial site.
