Notes In 1894, Sarah Ann Jordan, 8, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 22 children from the National Children's Home and Orphanage, London, England, accompanied by Rev. Dr. Stephenson and en route to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
On March 23, 1911, at Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Sarah Ann Jordan, 24, born to Wm Jordan and Sarah Humphries; and Benjamin Davis, fruit grower, born to Benjamin and Sarah Davis [mother's name was actually Eliza Lockitt].
At least 3 children were born of this marriage: Frederick Davis, born 1912 in Aldershot, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, died 2005, in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada; William Franklin Davis, born July 2, 1918, in Aldershot, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, died August 8, 1925, Aldershot, Burlington, Ontario, Canada; and Victor Ray Davis, born November 21, 1930, at Aldershot, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, died April 30, 1983, in Trenton, Ontario, Canada.
On September 15, 1937, at Aldershot, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, Sarah Ann Davis, 50, housewife, died of a cerebral haemorrhage and septicemia. The informant was her husband, Benjamin Davis. She was buried in Aldershot on September 16, 1937.
Her granddaughter's story:
"This lady was my grandmother. I never knew her, she died in 1937. We had always been told she came to Canada as an orphan, but I have found her on UK 1891 Census, with 7 siblings! Why she was sent to Canada, I don't know. I found her on the 1901 Canada Census listed as the "adopted daughter" of the Walker family in Wentworth county (Hamilton, ON area). I then found her on the 1911 Canada Census, married to my grandfather, Ben Davis. Her sister, known as Nell, was listed as living with them at that time. The hand-written 1911 census list Nell's last name as Gordon, but going by the age, and the fact she was listed as "sister", I believe she was the sibling "Ellen" from the 1891 UK census. Nell married a man with last name Elkin, and had two children.
My grandparents had a market garden at Aldershot, near Burlington, Ontario. My grandfather died in 1942. They had three boys, Frederick born in 1912, Billie, who drowned at the age of 7 in 1925, and Victor, my father, born in 1930."
