In 1901, Clara A. Brewin, 4 years of age, was shown residing at 22 Chatsworth Street, Leicester, Leicestershire, England. Other family members included: John J. Brewin, 28, printer compositor; Clara A. Brewin, 26; and Winnifred Brewin, 3 (Winnifred appears to have died by 1918). Clara's father, Joseph Brewin, died in Cape Town, South Africa, in April, 1905, and Clara went into Barnardos about 6 months later while living in South Hackney, London, England, due to the improverished circumstances they faced. Clara's mother gave her full name as Martha Clara Annie Brewin (nee Warner).

In 1908, Clara Annie Brewin, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 175 Barnardo children (65 girls to 109 boys) accompanied by Mrs. Francis en route to Peterborough and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In 1911, Clara Brewin, 14, was shown as a domestic (private family) to Arthur and Evelyn McMurray of Tudor Township, Hastings, Ontario, Canada. Her date of birth is shown as December 1896.

On November 9, 1921, at Stirling, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Clara Anne Brewin, 23, clerk, born in England to Joseph Brewin and Clara Warner; and William Alexander Matthews, 24, farmer, born in Raudeu Township, Canada, to Robert Matthews and Elizabeth Kitchen.

Between 1921 and 1928 Clara Annie Brewin had two boys in Hastings County, Ontario, Canada, with her husband, William Alexander Matthews.

William Alexander Mathews and Clara Anne (Brewin) Mathews is buried in Burnbrae Cemetery, Seymour, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada.
