In 1901, George is living at 1 Horncastle Road, Louth, Lincolnshire, England, as a boarder with John Carey, 25, an agricultural labourer; his mother Susanna Ironmonger, 24, who states she is married, and is shown as the housekeeper / domestic; and Mary Ann Ironmonger, 4. Robert Ironmonger has not been found during this time.

In 1911, George is shown lodging with a James Evans and family in Renfrew, Renfrew, Ontario, Canada.

On December 9, 1915, George Ironmonger joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was unmarried; a labourer; and that his next of kin was his guardian, Mrs. George Scott.

On March 14, 1922, a marriage was recorded in Carleton, Ontario, Canada, between George Ironmonger and Clara Edith McGowan, the daughter of Henry McGowan and Jean Laird. George stated he was 23 years of age, and that his parents names were John Ironmonger and Susana Crowe. He further stated that his profession was as a piano polisher and that he was residing at 375 Echo Drive, Ottawa, Canada (this was also the address of his "guardians" Mr. and Mrs. George W. Scott). Clara, 34 years of age, was a civil servant and living at 107 Nepean Street, Ottawa, Canada.

Clara Edith Ironmonger died on February 17, 1923 in Dr. Caven's Hospital, of bronchitis & pregnancy (2-1/2 months), complicated by pernicious anemia (2 months). She was buried on February 19, 1923, in Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa, Canada.
