In 1901, Wright Davis, 79, wife Lady Jane, 76, and children Wright Jnr, 41, Edgar, 35, and Bert Cartwright, 13, orphan boy, in Barnston, Stanstead, Quebec

April 17 1900

with Wright Davis, farmer, P.O Ladds Mills, Stanstead, Quebec

Age 12, comfortable home, employed at house work and chores about the farm, good health, attends Church of England, does not attend school, can read and write, character-a truthful and obedient boy. Terms-Board and Clothing. This lad was engaged by Mrs N G Stevens of Coaticook and was sent by her to her father, Mr Wright Davis. Mr and Mrs Davis are well spoken of. The family consists of Mr and Mrs Davis, their son and this lad. They all appear to be fond of the lad and treat him as one of their family. Cartwight is contented and says that he is well treated.

May 16 1902

Age 14, although this boy is supposed to be with Mrs Stevens at the above address. I find that he is living with her father some miles in the country. He does farm work for which he has not as yet been paid any wages. He has been here now going on three years. I think his clothing requires more attention as it was rather light in weight. Mrs Stevens is well spoken of and well recommended in Coaticook, but I am not satisfied with the boy in his present place
