Robert had been in the Royal Navy but had invalided out and had taken up as a shoemaker.

In 1903, Harry Banks, 10, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 316 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He was described as 5 foot 2 inches in height; fresh complexion; hazel eyes; black hair. He was a member of the Church of England. He had a scar on his left breast and 5 vaccination marks on his left arm.

On July 12, 1926, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Harry Albert Banks, 33, janitor, born in England to James Banks and Charlotte Welch; and Ethel Violet Giddings, 25, born in England to Charles Arthur and Lydia Giddings.
