Attestation papers were signed 8 Sep 1915 in Mitchell, Ontario. Edward Riggall was born 18 Dec 1890 in Spanlding County (Likely Spalding County, Lincolnshire) England. He was a Labourer by trade. His Next of Kin was listed as Barnardo Home at 51-52 Peter Street, Toronto. 5' 5 1/4" in height with blue eyes and brown hair, he had a tatto of a cross on his left forearm and "Small spot ... right" as possible text. His religion was listed as Church of England.
Commonwealth War Graves Registers states he was Killed in Action at Mount Sorrel and was buried in the vicinity. His Next of Kin was listed as Miss Lorrie Riggall c/o Mrs. King at 507-509 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, London, England but his grave registration was returned undelivered. His body was not recovered, his name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, West Flanders, Belgium.
There is a possible matching Charlotte Anne Riggall born in 1895 in Spalding, Lincolnshire, England who was accounted for in the 1891 English Census as a niece of Mary Riggall, again in 1901 and then 1911 when she worked as a Bookbinder. Records indicate that Charlotte married Alfred Ludkin in Lewisham, Kent in 1921 but there is nothing stating the names of her parents.
