NotesThis obit came from the Lois Stanford British Home Child Collection - Charles Coates ill past year died in hospital.....Charles Sidney Coates,71,of RR 1 Prescott,died at the Brockville General Hospital on Friday,June 30,after being a patient there for the past year.He was born in Stanshaw,England on July 21,1906,son of the late William Coates and the former Elizabeth Locke.He was married at Clear Lake,near Elgin,on June 6,1934 to Loreen Watts, who survived. Mr.Coates was employed as a carpenter during the building of DuPont,then at the Brockville Psychiatric hospital,and latterly with the Murray Black Construction Company,from where he retired several years agi. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion,No.96,Brockville and enjoyed fishing,hunting and gardening. He belonged to St.James Anglican Church,Maitland. Besides his wife,he is survived by his step-mother,Mrs.Nellie Lockerbie of Portland and also by four sons and one daughter. Ernest of RR 4 Athens, Lawrence of RR 5 Smiths Falls, John of Gananoque,and Mrs.Stewart Burnette ( June) of RR 1 Brockville,and Sheridan Coates of RR 1 Prescott, as well as 13 grandchildren and one brother,Bill Coates of Forfar,and two half-sisters,Mrs.Nellie Stickland of Lombardy and Mrs.Patricia Carr of Portland.Friends were received at the Johnston-Judson Funeral Home,68 King.Street east,until Monday morning,July 3,when funeral services were held in the chapel at 11 am.Rev.Harrison Flint of Maitland officiating.Interment followed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The pallbearers were Donald Crooke,Thomas Kirkby,Murray Black,Danny Bruce,Bill Fraser and Wally Kirkby.
