Notes William and his brother, Leontine Leopold, were placed with Barnardoes in or around 1897. They had another brother, born in 31 Dec 1897 - Walter Leslie, who was fostered within the extended family. William and Leo were initially boarded out in the village of Aston Tirrold, Oxfordshire, England. The reason for placement with Barnardoes was 'explained' as that their father (William Beasley Mills) had died although this appears not to have been true - he died in Dec 1898 in Bromley, Kent, UK.
