In 1901, Ada Colbear, 13 years of age, was shown residing at 30 Strode Road, North End and Buckland, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. Other family members included: Arthur Colbear, 48, carrier/oil stores; Arthur Colbear, 19, oil stores; Elizabeth Colbear, 46; Frederick Colbear, 11; Leonard Colbear, 5; Maggie Colbear, 8; May Colbear, 3; and Willie Colbear, 15. In 1903, Ada Colbear (Canadian incoming lists the surname as Coldbear), 11 (along with her sister, Margaret Colbear, 8), arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 137 children en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
On May 22, 1909, at Nicholls Hospital, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, Ada Cobear (death certificate misspelled), 18, domestic, died of pulmonary tuberculosis and asthenia (a condition in which the body lacks or has lost strength either as a whole or in any of its parts). Ada is buried at Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, along with 46 other Barnardo children who were a part of Hazlebrae House.
