In 1901, James B. Styche, 6 years of age, was residing at 48 Barker Street, Lady Wood, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Other family members included: Elizabeth Styche, 43, widow, living on own means; George Styche, 14; Harry Styche, 4 months; John A. Styche, 8; Louisa Styche, 10; and Robert W. Styche, 5. In 1902, James Styche, 8 (along with siblings Louisa Styche, 11, and John Styche, 9) arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with a group of 117 children en route to the Middlemore Home in Halifax. (Brother Harry Styche arrived in 1911 on the Carthaginian with Middlemore, and brother Robert Styche arrived in 1903 on the Siberian with Middlemore.)

In 1911, James Styche, 17, is shown as a boarder / labourer in coal mine with Angus McLeod and family in Westville, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada. His date of birth was shown as May 1894 and his immigration year as 1897.

On September 11, 1916, James Bernard Styche enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service No. 2001260). He declared that he resided in Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada; that he was born in Birmingham, England; that his next of kin was Elizabeth Ada Styche, who resided in Birmingham, England; that his date of birth was March 20, 1894; that he was a farmer; that he had served 4 years in the Canadian militia; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 8 inches; 150 pounds; medium complexion; brown eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith. He had a distinguishing mark of a pendict(?) scar.

James Styche married Martha Jean Heisler, daughter of Walter Roy Heisler and Edith Blanche Langille. James and Martha Jane Styche had four children: Edward Styche; John Styche; Violet Styche; Marlene Styche; and William Styche.

James Styche died in July 1981. Martha Jean Heisler Styche died January 30, 1996. Both are buried in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, Dartmouth, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
