NotesParents: John Henry Weatherall and Hannah Grady.

Hannah Weatherall was married to John Henry Weatherall in England. Hannah was born in Wapping, Middlesex England. John Henry was born at St. George East, Middlesex, England. They had from the records four children in 1899 and Hannah was pregnant with their fifth child. John (17) employed at a boiler maker's; Thomas (8), Joseph (5) and Maude Jane (4). John Henry Weatherall was listed as a drinker and said to have been in a street brawl that caused complications from which he died on August 20, 1899. Hannah gave birth to a baby boy on December 25, 1899 in Whitechapel, the same hospital that employed Hannah. She named him Victor. She tried to keep him with her, but she was unable to work and look after him, so, at four months old, Barnardo's were called in and took him.

In 1901, Victor Weatherall, 1 year of age, was shown residing as a boarder at the home of Charles and Eliza Barker, Cot Woodgates East, Broxted, Essex, England. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 1732; Folio: 48; Page: 9.)

Hannah apparently continued to work at the hospital. There she met a gentlemen only referred to as Cogoum. The Barnardo records say he was a carpenter. She co-habitated with him, and, again, became pregnant. Upon hearing this news he disappeared and was not heard of again. When Cogoum ran out on them she became in arrears for rent, so she and her young children went into the Bethnal Green Workhouse and it was there that she gave birth to Edwin Albert Weatherall in 1902. The papers say she took all of her children and left the workhouse on October 10, 1902. On November 7, 1902 she took Edwin back to Stepney and gave him over to the care of the Barnardos. Hannah told Barnardos she was 39 years old at that time.

In 1911, Victor Weatherall, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 224 Barnardo boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (His brother, A. Weatherall, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in 1913, in a group of 155 Barnardo boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.)

Barnardos had a last known address for Victor of RR 1 Vineland Ontario, in the year 1949. His son was still resident in the home in 2000.
