NotesIn 1920, Peter Van Santen, 16, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 143 Barnardo children en route to 50-52 Peter Street, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. He declared that his intended occupation was farm work; that his destination was to his friend, Mr. Hobday, Superintendent at Barnardo Homes, Peter Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and that his nearest relative was his grandfather, Mr. Van Santen, 30, St. James Dwellings, Silver Place, Beak Street, W.

Peter met Mary Mullard on the ship coming to Canada. She was 13, he was 17 and they kept in touch with letters.

On December 12, 1924, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Peter Van Santen, 20, farm helper, born in England to unknown parents; and residing in Barnardo Homes, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada; and Mary Mullard, 17, born in England to unknown parents; and residing in Barnardo Homes, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. [EDITORS NOTE: The couple were both denoted as being "wards of Barnardo's Homes."]

They lived a happy and long life with thier children.
A true love story.
