NotesA birth registration was found for Stuart Algernoon H Rudd: Year of Registration: 1883; Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec; District: Woolwich; County: Greater London, Kent, London; Volume: 1d; Page: 1201.

In 1891, Stuart Algernon Harrison Rudd, 7, was shown as a scholar residing, along with his brothers, Charles Stacey Harrison Rudd, 10, and Victor Lionel Patrick Harrison Rudd, 6, at the Infant Orphan Asylum, Leyton, West Ham, Essex, England. (Source: 1891 Census of England; Class: RG12; Piece: 1352; Folio 131; Page 16; GSU roll: 6096462.)

It was thought that Stewart's mother was killed in an accident, leaving 5 children, and all were sent to Barnardo's homes. Stuart/Stewart was then sent to Canada.

In 1899, S. A. Rudd, 11, was shown arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 169 boys; two were sent to Saint John, New Brunswick, 82 to Toronto, 44 to Winnipeg and 39 to Russell, Manitoba, Canada. The party disembarked at Saint John.

In March 1906, Stuart Rudd, 22, clerk, returned from a voyage back to England on the Lake Erie calling at St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.

It appears that Stuart Rudd emigrated from Canada to New South Wales, Australia. In 1916, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, a marriage was registered between Stuart A. H. Rudd, aged 25, and Florence Stuttle, aged 20.

Florence Stuttle Rudd died prior to 1922. In 1922, in Granville, New South Wales, Australia, a marriage was registered between Stuart A. H. Rudd and Rita J. Jackson.

His residence in Australia is evidenced by electoral registers (Australian Electoral Rolls, 1901-1936 / New South Wales / 1936 / Reid / Auburn North / S):

1936: 3768; Rudd, Stuart Algernon Harrison; 78 Northumberland rd.; Aub.; w.; M.

His residence is also evidenced by the Australian Merchant Seamen Commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial:

RUDD, Fourth Engineer Officer, CHARLES, M.V. Port Victor (London). Merchant Navy. 30th April 1943. Age 25. Son of Stuart Algernon Harrison Rudd and Florence Rudd, of Auburn, New South Wales. Australia. Panel 84.
