NotesParents: Henry Ballard and Sarah Hallam, married December 6, 1874, at Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.

Sarah Ballard, 43, died on November 23, 1898, at the Workhouse Infirmary, Western Road, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, of mitrial disease and cardiac failure.

In 1903, Leah Ballard, 9, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 124 Middlemore children.

Leah was placed and adopted by Andrew and Hannah Harrison of St. Marys Parish, Gibson, New Brunswick, Canada.

On July 3, 1914, at St. Marys, York, New Brunswick, Canada, a marriage was registered between Leah B. Harrison, 20, born in Birmingham, England, to Harry and Eliza Ballard; and [another Middlemore BHC] Thomas Whitehead, 22, labourer, born in Birmingham, England, to Thomas and Harriet Whitehead.

At least twelve children were born of this marriage.

Mrs. Leah Whitehead of Rockland East, died in hospital on Sunday, Sept. 21, 1958, after a short illness. She was 64.

Born in Birmingham, England, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ballard. She married thomas Whitehead in 1914. Mrs. Whitehead attended the United Church.

Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Walter, Harry and Arthur, all of Ottawa, and five daughters, Anna and Hilda of Fredericton, N.B., Mrs. James Garrett (Edith), Verdun, Que., Hope of Montreal Que., and Mrs. Thomas Malone (Vida) of Ottawa.

The funeral was held in the Chapel of Veitch-Draper Funeral Home this afternoon, September 23, 1958, Rev. F. H. Joblin officiating. Burial in Pinecrest Cemetery. [Pinecrest Cemetery, Section S, Lot 277, S1/2.]
