In 1901, Harry Styche, 4 months of age, was residing at 48 Barker Street, Lady Wood, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Other family members included: Elizabeth Styche, 43, widow, living on own means; George Styche, 14; John A. Styche, 8; Robert W. Styche, 5; Louisa Styche, 10; and James B. Styche, 6. In 1911, Harry Styche, 10, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 172 children en route to the Middlemore Home in Halifax. (Siblings John Styche, Louisa Styche, and James Styche, arrived in 1902 on the Siberian with Middlemore; brother Robert Styche arrived in 1903 on the Siberian with Middlemore.)

In 1911, Harrey Stych, 10, was shown as a domestic for John Waltman and family in St. Marys, York, New Brunswick, Canada. His date of birth was shown as December 1901 and his immigration year as 1911.

On March 7, 1916, Charles Henry Smith (alias Harry Stych), attempted to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared on his attestation that he was residing in Napadogan, New Brunswick, Canada; that his next of kin was his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, who resided in Birmingham, England (this is crossed out and noted "street address of next of kin not known" with another name written: Mary Ann Gallagher, Taymouth, York, New Brunswick); that his date of birth was July 17, 1897 (a note was inserted: "actual age claimed on 30-1-18; birth certificate shows date of birth 10-12-1900"); that he was a lumberman; and that he was not married.
