On September 18, 1917, Donald Harbourne Taylor, 21, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at 734 East Main Street, Portland, Maine, USA; that he was born in Birmingham, England; that his next of kin was his mother, Mrs. Alice Taylor, who resided at Hope Cottage, Stratford Road, Shirley, England; that his date of birth was June 1, 1896; that he was a miner; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 8 inches in height; fair complexion; gray eyes; fair hair. He was a member of the Christian Science Church. (EDITORS NOTE: His father, Joseph Harborne Taylor, also enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service No. 258881). He was residing at 1423-5 North Monroe Street, Spokane, Washington, USA at the time. Donald's brother, Private Harry Harborne Taylor, 50th Battalion (Canadian Infantry) Alberta Regiment, died, aged 17, in the service of the Canadian Armed Forces at Vimy Ridge.)

Donald H. Taylor died in San Francisco, California on July 24, 1968 at the age of 72.
