NotesMy grandma, Bessie, was placed in the Barnardo home around the 1911/1912 in England around the age 6, her father, George Charles Burford, left her mother Fanny Gertrude Turnor, her two brothers Herbert, Benjamin and her identical twin sister Belinda. Bessie and Belinda were placed in the Barnardo home and Hector was placed in a workhouse, while little Ben stayed at home. My grandma was separated from her sister in the home and never saw her again as she was sent to Canada with the Hazelbrae house in 1922, in Peterborough Ont. Bessie would never see Hector or Belinda again, Hector died at the age of 24 and Belinda at the age of 38 and little Ben grew up and placed an ad in a newspaper in Canada searching for his sister and after 40 years Bessie was reunited with her only living relative in Worcester England. Bessie had believed in those 40 years that her father had died when she was a little girl only to find out that he died some 40 years later and had the realize that he had abandoned their family.

On 16 June 1924, Bessie Burford, 17, daughter of George Chas Burford and Gertrude, married Kenneth Herbert Sheridan in Toronto, York, Ont. Ken and Bessie resided in Oshawa Ont. there they had two sons Murray and Gordon. Ken and Bessie divorced many years later and she eventually remarried a Frank Roach and when he died, she married a Bill Beaton. I believe that my grandma searched for love, happiness and approval her whole life and that being taken away from her family at a tender age of about 6 years old and separated and from her identical twin sister, her two brothers and parents had a major impact on her life and left a life time of emotional scars!
