New notes:

In the March 1896 Ups and Downs, Sidney is listed as having arrived in 1891 and living in Drumbo, Brant, Ontario.

In the January 1899 edition of Ups and Downs, this note is included. Sidney had taken part in a Christmas Excursion back to visit England.

Sidney Ponting and Fred Bowers are two friends who have pretty well shared each other's fortunes since they came out from England as small boys nearly eight years ago. We could say a great deal in praise of them both had we the space to do so, but we think we will let their minister speak for them in the letter of commendation that each of the boys recieved from him on their departure and which they showed us with other certificates of character.

To Whom It May Concern: This certifies that I am personally acquainted with the bearer Mr. Syndey Ponting, and I take much pleasure in testifying to the fact that all who know him speak well of him. Faithful to his employers and faithful to his duties as a Christian and a member of the Methodist Church, he has won the respect and good wishes of all. G. Francis Morris, Pastor of the Methodist Church.

In the August 1902 edition of Ups and Downs it is noted:

"We have also heard lately of Sidney Ponting who writes from Sault Ste. Marie to his old friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Poss of Tuscarora. Sidney is doing splendidly well according to the account he give of himself, and in his own words "making money like dirt". We only hope he isn't spending it in like manner. We do not fancy he is, as although the ability to save money is the one thing lacking to so many of our boys success and advancement, we are incllined to think Sidney has got a good vein of good sound sense in his make up tht will keep him from extravagance and spendthrift habits."
