Notes[POSSIBLE MATCH] A birth registration was found for George Henry Lee: Year of Registration: 1890; Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep; District: Lambeth; County: Greater London, London, Surrey; Volume: 1d; Page: 465.

No information was shown on the Lambeth Workhouse Register as to whether George was legitimate or not. A possible match was found whereby George Hy Lee, aged 8 months, was shown on the 1891 UK Census as residing in Kennington with his father, George H. A. Lee, 24, a bricklayer; and his mother, Emma Lee, 26, at 14 Theobald Terrace, Landon Road, Kennington, Lambeth, London, England. (Class: RG12; Piece: 405; Folio 169; Page 40; GSU roll: 6095515). (EDITORS NOTE: George Henry Lee and Emma Lucas were married in 1889 at St. Saviour, London, England.)

George Lee was admitted to Lambeth Workhouse on August 14, 1899, and discharged to Lambeth Union Schools on August 16, 1899

George had been found at Kennington Cross at 10.40 pm on August 14, 1899, and brought to the workhouse by PC (Police Constable) 245L. He said that his mother, Annie, left him in the streets and that she lived at Common Lodging Houses.

George was discharged to Barnardo's Home on June 12, 1901.

In 1901, George Lee, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a large group of Barnardo children: 239 to Toronto, Ontario; 68 to Winnipeg, Manitoba; 20 to Russell, Manitoba; and 3 to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Feb 25 1903, with Robert W Gordon, farmer, Mather, Manitoba,

Age 12, good home, a comfortable farm home, employed at chores, excellent health-was kicked by a horse summer-is now entirely over it. Attends Presbytarian Church, he reads and writes very well. Character-a trustworthy and obedient boy.
Terms-four years agreement dating from 1st April 1903 to 1st April 1907, $10, $20, $30 and $40 per annum respectively. This is a very bright, intelligent boy-a jolly fat little boy; thoroughly happy and contented, being well treated by a kind family. The school is 1 1/2 miles away but has only been open in the summer so far. It is expected to be open in the winter in another year and then the boy will attend.
