September ? 1894, with Mrs Thos Shield, Tennyson,

Arthur is thoroughly happy and at home with the Sheils. He says he is glad he came to this country. Mrs S is equally as well pleased with A. He is truthful, obedient and unwilling. He is very proud of his pledge card which he signed before leaving Marchmont. A friend has ??? learned it for him.

December 28th 1894

Dear Mr and Mrs Wallace

I hope you are quite well, as I am myself. I spent a nice Christmas. I thank you very very much for your Camel Watch?. I wish you a merry Xmas and a Happy new year. It is now very cold. We had a snow storm on thursday and it was very windy. Sister gave me two christmas presents, one was a pen combined with a pencil. We had two Christmas trees and I got two on each of them. I have been to school for about three or four weeks. We had a nice Christmas dinner of roast Goose and plum pudding. I light the fires of a morning. Write as quick as you can and tell me how you enjoyed your Christmas. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life. I suppose they had their stockings full of nice things on Christmas. I think I close my letter now this is all I have to say, from your loving boy, Arthur Clowes, Tennyson, Ontario

August 2 1895, with Thomas Sheil, Tennyson

Arthur is growing quickly and if he continues to do so will be a big man. He is naturally large, strong and healthy. He is very happy, likes the farm and is getting quite useful about the chores. He can harness a horse quite well. Mr Sheil gives him a very good character. He goes to school during the winter, is in the 3rd book. Attends church.

October 27 1896, with Thomas Sheil, Tennyson

Had dinner at ? very comfortable home. He is very well spoken of by both Mr and Mrs Shiel and they appear quite fond of him. Is learning to make himself useful about the farm. Has enjoyed good health and grown quite fast. Attended school about 4 months last winter and made good progress. Attends church regularly.

August 9 1897, with Thomas Sheil, Tennyson, Ontario

Arthur was not at home. i met him at a neighbours house but did not recognise him and he did not speak to me. He has grown stout and strong and is getting on nicely on the farm. He is thinking of learning tailoring next Winter, does not care for school but attends during the winter months. Goes to church and Sunday school
