On April 16, 1905, Alfred Adamson, 40, farmer, and his son, Joseph Adamson, 18, engineer, arrived in Canada on the ship Virginian.

In 1906, John Adamson, 8, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 15 children from the Liverpool Sheltering Home (99 in total on the ship) under the care of Mrs. Louisa Birt, en route to Knowlton, Quebec, Canada. The outgoing manifest contains a declaration of Andrew Drummond, the agent for the Sheltering Home, who stated that the children had not been the inmates of workhouses and that they had passed a satisfactory medical inspection at the port of departure. John Adamson (date of birth October 27, 1897) was shown to have been resident at 46 Pembroke Street, Liverpool Sheltering Home, Myrtle Road, Liverpool, England.

One month after arriving in Quebec, on August 1, 1906, the rest of John's family (Bessie; Mary; James; Florrie; Gertrude; Lily; and Mrs. Adamson) arrived in Canada on the ship Victorian.

On December 15, 1915, at Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, John Adamson, 19, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Keeler, Saskatchewan, Canada; that he was born in Liverpool, England; that his next of kin was his father, Alfred Adamson, who resided at Keeler, Saskatchewan, Canada; that his date of birth was February 17, 1896; that he was an Engineer (gasoline); and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 6-1/2 inches in height; 'four' complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith.
