NotesA birth registration was found for Helen Mary Hitchcock: Date: Oct-Nov-Dec 1895; District: Chelsea; County: London; Volume: 1a; Page: 365. Parents: John Hitchcock and Mary Fowler, married December 26, 1893, Taunton, Somerset, England.

Her father, John Hitchcock, of Chelsea, London deserted the family in 1902 and ran away to West Bromwich with a girl 15 years his junior, where he started a second family. The mother and three children moved between the Taunton and Chelsea Workhouses until the mother (Mary nee Fowler) died of TB on 4 November 1903. After a further stay in Chelsea Workhouse the three children, Helen b. 1895, John b. 1897 and George b. 1900 were accepted into Dr Barnardo's on 5th January 1904.

In 1909, Nellie Hitchcock, 13, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 103 Barnardo children en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

She died 23 Feb 1940 of complications of a operation.Buried Prospect Cemetery.Her parants are John Hitchcock a market gardener and Mary Fowler.She and her brothers John and George were taken into Banardos care after the death of their mother Mary
