NotesMaud was taken into Barnardo?s Childrens home on the 12th December 1889 age 5 ? (At the time the parents were recorded as separated but later were back together)

Barnardo?s sent Maud to Canada on the 5th September 1895 aboard SS Sardinian she arrived in Quebec on the 15th September 1895.

Her brother Henry was sent to Canada on the 26th March 1885 aboard the SS Circassian he arrived in Halifax on the 7th April 1885.

Their brother John was also sent to Canada, 28th June 1894 aboard the SS Sardinian arriving Quebec 9th July 1894. We have not found his records as yet and do not know what happened to him in Canada.

Maud was sent to a Mrs Harcourt a Farmers wife in St Ann?s, Ontario. It is recorded that her health was delicate and in 1903 she was looking forward to her brother Henry who was a solder in India coming back and settling in Canada. This never happened as Henry went back to England with his regiment the Royal Horse Artillery and never returned to Canada as far as we know.

Although the record stated that it was planned for Maud to train as a dressmaker this never happened and she was kept working on the farm. In 1906 she had signs of consumption and was unwell but was still able to do a little work.

Arthur Sheppard was discharged from the army in 1919/20 met Maud and they married in London, Ontario, Canada in 1920. They went onto have one child also called Arthur Sheppard. Arthur states his mother was a very Christian woman, truly loveable and great mother to him. The family are still in Canada.
