NotesA birth registration was found for Mafey Skelton: Date: Apr-May-Jun 1900; District: Sheffield; County: Yorkshire West Riding; Volume: 9c; Page: 543. Parents: Frederick Skelton and Mary Hollins, no marriage registration found.

She was named Mafey as she was born the day after the ?Siege of Mafeking? ended.

Frederick Skelton died 9 August 1903, from phthisis in the Sheffield Royal
Infirmary. His occupation was a File cutter.

Mafey was admitted to Barnados Homes (possibly Sheffield Ever Open Door, Pittsmoor Road) on 17 March 1910, and her mother was living at Milton Street, Sheffield, working as a servant.

In 1912, Mafey Skelton, 12, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 132 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

In April 1918, Mafey was employed at the Telephone Office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

She returned to England (alone) for a visit in 1925, and stayed for six months, visiting her mother, brother John William and sister in law, Minnie at Portabello Street, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.

Mafey returned to Canada prior to her mother?s death in 1925.
