Notes Caroline came to Canada at the age of 7, in 1890, with a group of 41 Maria Rye children...Mrs Lacy's party. 1891 Census shows that Caroline was placed with Joseph and Mary Ann O'Donnell, on a farm near Merrickville..Lot 14 Con 2 Wolford Twp, Grenville County. Joseph and Mary Ann married late in life and had no children. Both died by 1897 and Caroline would only be 14. Not sure what would have happened to Caroline after they died. They did not legally adopt her. She was not an heir when their estate was dealt with.
I will continue to search for information on Caroline, and since she was placed with my Great grand Aunt I will consider her mine until someone else claims her.
1901 Census shows a Caroline Stewart, Servant, aged 16, living with the Thomas Leahy family in Kingston.
Her place of birth is given as Scotland and year of immigration 1894, however this could still be our Caroline, as similar discrepancies are seen in many other records of home children.
I also found that there was a 12 year old girl by the name of Clara Stewart, on the same ship with Caroline. Whether or not they are related is uncertain, but I though it worth mention.
