NotesAlfred was taken to Barnardo's on March 24, 1882 by a woman who gave her name as Rebecca Tracey and who claimed to be his step-mother. Alfred's father, Alfred Tracey Sr., and his mother, Annie Gordon, were both in prison at that time. On August 10, 1882, at the age of 12, Alfred was taken out to Canada by Mr. Fielder, onboard the SS Parisian, and placed in the Home at East Hamilton. In 1883, he was employed by Mr. John Nelson in Woodstock, Ontario. In 1889, he was working with Mr. William Highton in Vandecar, Ontario.
