NotesFlorence's mother was put in Warwick prison when she assaulted a constable when the Constable was trying to arrest her son James for begging. She was also charged with child neglect. Florence spent one night at Barnardo's Stepney Causeway in London and then was transferred to the Girls Village Home in Barkingside. She was boarded out on December 9, 1899 to King's Sombourne in Hampshire and returned to the Girls Village home on May 17, 1901 to prepare for her emigration on June 6,1901 to the Barnardo's Hazelbrae home in Petersboro, Canada.
