Notes Born in Wigan on 10 Oct 1863 to Thomas Laidlaw and Alice Marsden. We believe Robert was placed in the Liverpool Sheltering Home after his mother Alice Died in Childbirth with a younger brother, and his father Thomas entered a Liverpool work house. Robert's sister, Elizabeth may also be a home child. After arriving in Nova Scotia, Robert was placed with a farmer named Robert Putnum, and later to a farmer named Rubert Fellow. At about the age of 18, Robert traveled to Lewiston, Maine (perhaps to work in a factory that was taking immigrants at the time) and met Nellie Esther Everett. They married in 1885 and had three sons: Robert, Clarence, and Earl. Records indicate that Robert moved with his family to Martha's Vinyard where he hold quite a bit of real estate. He died July 17, 1926 and is buried on Martha's Vinyard.
