John Abbey (J. Abbey) arrived in Quebec with a party of 310 children from Dr. Barnardo, including his brother Thomas (L. Abbey) and his sister Bertha Abbey (B. Abbey), en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On December 27, 1914, John Abbey joined the Canadian armed forces at Winnipeg Manitoba. He declared he was single, a sheetmetal worker, and his next of kin was Thomas Abbey, who resided at Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada.

In April, 1924, John Abbey, crossed into the United States from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He stated he was 36 years of age, a tinsmith, and his final destination was Detroit, Michigan, to live with his brother, Thomas Abbey, at 70 Palmer Avenue. He is described as being 5 foot 8 inches in height; medium complexion; gray hair; brown eyes. He further stated he was born in Newcastle on Tyne, England.

John Abbey died in May 1966 in Midland, Midland, Michigan.
