NotesA birth registration was found for Herbert George Ackland: Year of Registration: 1898; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: St Saviour Southwark; County: London, Surrey; Volume: 1d; Page: 26. Parents: Thomas Edward Ackland and Elizabeth Whitbread, married 1890, Lambeth, London, England.

In 1906, Herbert G. Ackland, 8, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 215 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

On May 29, 1918, at London, Ontario, Canada, Herbert George Ackland, 20, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at 143 Grange Avenue, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in London, England; that his next of kin was his sister, Mrs. Elanor Biggs, who resided at 143 Grange Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; that he was born March 11, 1898; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 8 inches in height; dark complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith.

[EDITORS NOTE] Sister Eleanor Alice Ackland was born in 1888 at Finsbury, London, England, to William Thomas Ackland and Sarah Ann Hetherington, who married in 1881. No death record found for Sarah Ann Ackland, but it is assumed that she died prior to 1890 when Thomas Ackland married Elizabeth Whitbread, Herbert's parents.
