On January 11, 1915, at Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, Bert Addis, 21, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, England; that he had no next-of-kin; that his date of birth was April 8, 1893; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 5-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; blue eyes; blonde hair. He was a member of the Church of England.
On 10 May 1919, at Woodstock, Oxford, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Herbert Addis, 22, finisher, born in Wales to Harold Addis and Mary Wilkins; and Ivy Dorothy Owen, 18, born Isle of Wight, England, to George Owen and Mary Nash. (EDITORS NOTE: Ivy Owen arrived in 1912 aged 11 with her parents George and Mary and siblings, they gave their destination as Woodstock, Ontario. Her father was a fitter.)
