In 1913, Edgar Alden, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 24 children from the Church of England Waifs and Strays Society accompanied by Mr. Pugh en route to Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.
On March 13, 1916, at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Edgar Alden, 18, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at Waterloo, Quebec, Canada; that he was born in Beccles, Suffoulk [sic], England; that his next of kin was his mother, Mrs. John Alden, who resided at Beccles, Suffolk, England; that his date of birth was March 14, 1898; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 2-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; grey eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England.
On September 21, 1917, Edgar Alden, aged 19, was killed while fighting in France. He was Step-brother of Caroline Bird, of The Vicarage, Ilketshall St. Andrew, Bungay, England. He was buried in La Targette British Cemetery, Neuville St Vaast, Pas de Calais, France. (Grave Ref. I. H. 31.)
