He was described as 5 foot 7-1/2 inches in height; dark complexion; brown eyes; black hair. He had 3 vaccination marks on his left arm. He was a member of the Wesleyan faith.

On November 19, 1916, Eric Aldred married Alice Louisa Rye in Folkestone, Kent, England.

At least 3 children were born of this marriage: Harry Eric Woodman Aldred, born November 26, 1917, at Folkestone, Kent, England, died November 1981 at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England; Rita Doreen Aldred, born February 19, 1920, at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, died November 2002 in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada; and Philip Aldred, born about 1922 at South Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, died November 3, 2008, at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
