NotesThe Papers of the Middlemore Children's Emigration Homes reveal:
It was John's father George Allsupp who turned his three children into the care of Middlemore Homes. The date was Oct 15, 1877. George Allsupp told them the mother was dead, and he and the children were living in a lodging house (Mrs. Smith's). When his wife lived they had a tidy home; after her death he rambled about the country (not sure if the children rambled with him). He had buried four children. The report of the worker for the Home stated that it was an urgent case for the Home and the children were accepted.

In 1878, John Allsup, 3 (along with sisters, M. A. Allsupp, 5, and Eliza Allsupp, 11), arrived at Quebec, Canada, with a group of 88 Middlemore children en route to London, Ontario, Canada.

John and his sisters Mary Ann and Eliza first went to the Guthrie Home in London, Ont. The first report from this Home (July 12, 1878) has John with a Frederick Goble, who is the Post Master for the Harrow P. O. Nov 9, 1878 has him with the same person, in the same location. John's behaviour is recorded as very satisfactory. July 25, 1879, John is still with Frederick Goble and at the same location. John's health is good, the general condtion of the home is excellent and his behaviour if very satisfactory.

Did John remain in this home until he went on the Manitoba? I do not know. I can find no census of John with the Goble family. There is a death record that would indicate that Frederick Goble died 31 Aug 1896.

I believe that Harrow Post Office is located in Colchester, Essex Co., Ontario.
