On 17 March 1901, James Edward Anness, son of George and Eliza, was baptised at Holy Trinity Church, Haverstock Hill, Camden, London.

James Anness is not listed with his family in the 1911 Census of England and Wales.

In Jan Qtr of 1913 the death of George Anness, aged 46, was registered in St Pancras, London, England.

James and brother Alfred entered St Margaret's Childrens Home on April 21, 1913 from the Workhouse.

James Edward Anness born January 21, 1900, was admitted with brother Alfred Henry, born June 1, 1904, to Leavesden School (St Pancras Union Schools) on May 3, 1913, 'from St Margaret's.' Mother Eliza, Fairgrove[?] Park; father dead. James was discharged on July 23, 1914, and his brother on August 27, 1919.

In 1914, James Edward Anness, 13, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 10 Salvation Army children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

His brother Alfred was trained up as a Shoemaker and went into the Army - Duke of Wellington 2nd Battalion.
