In 1905, E. Alywin, 8, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 433 Barnardo children: males to Toronto, Ontario, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the females to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

On October 13, 1917, at Lindsay, Ontario, Canada, Ernest Edward Aylwin, 20, was drafted under Military Service Act No. P.C.924840 into the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that his date of birth was December 22, 1896; that he resided at RR #1, Oakwood, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Portsmouth, England; that he was not married; and that his next of kin was his sister, Miss Nellie Aylwin, who resided at the Ritz Carleton Hotel, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was described as 5 foot 5-1/4 inches in height; dark complexion; blue eyes; black hair.

On December 2, 1919, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Ernest Edward Aylwin, 22, laborer, born in Portsmouth, England, to Arthur Edward Aylwin and Harriet Ayling; and another home child, Emma Celia Pender, 22, housework, born in England to Joseph Robertson and Catharine Duiner.

There were at least 4 children born of this marriage: Harold Vernon Aylwin, born August 20, 1925, Ontario, Canada, died April 2, 1945, of multiple injuries from a mine explosion, while serving during WW2 in Belgium; Edward Aylwin; Douglas Aylwin; Norman Aylwin, born about 1929, died May 20, 2010, in Hanover, Ontario, Canada; and Lois Aylwin.

Ernest E., beloved husband of the late Emma Aylwin, dear father of Edward, Douglas, Norman, Lois and the late Vernon Aylwin, dear grandfather of 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and brother of Bert of Grimsby, Ont. Resting at the Giffen-Mack Chapel, 2570 Danforth Ave. at Main St. Funeral arrangements later.
