NotesIn 1901, Annie Ayres, 9 (along with her brother, Joseph Ayres, 10) arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 53 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

The family of Joseph Ayres believe that Annie and Joseph wrote back and forth to each other and Annie did know where he was living, even though she was placed quite a distance away. Family stories state that she wanted very much to see Joseph again, but her placement family forbid her from doing so and since she feared that she would never see him again, she committed suicide.

[POSSIBLE MATCH] On December 14, 1915, at Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Annie Ellen Ayres, 24, born in England to Thomas Ayres and Elizabeth Hamshere; and Philip Burnham, 35, soldier, born in England to Daniel Burnham and Elizabeth Sumpter. Annie's brother, J. Ayres and Bertha Ayres, who resided at Duke St., Hamilton, Ontario, acted as witnesses to the marriage.

Philip Burnham died in 1928 at the age of 41.
