In 1905, F. Backhurst, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 433 children, males to Toronto and Winnipeg and the females to Peterborough. There were nine adults on the end of the list who were traveling with the group. Frederick Franks, a boy aged 7, was listed as going to Peterborough.
On June 13, 1920, Frank Backhurst, 25 years, died in Miami, Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada. (Registration No.: 1920,043508)
The Winnipeg Free Press reported his death on June 15, 1920:
Boy Drowned Near Miami
Miami, Man., June 14. -- Frank Backhurse [sic], 21, was drowned in a slough two miles south of Miami on Sunday afternoon while swimming with two other boys. His death is said to have been purely accidental. He was a Barnardo boy and very popular in the district.
